About Sam
Sam Averett
I grew up in Baker City, Oregon, a small ranching community in the northeastern part of the state. From a young age I followed my parents around the mountains behind our home, skiing, hunting fishing and ranching. We spent our free time outside, which I believe impacted the career paths I dreamt of pursuing. I developed a passion for capturing my outdoor experiences with a cheap camcorder during high school that led me to pursue photography. During and after college I worked for the United States Forest Service as a wildland firefighter, shooting photos in the offseason. Eventually, photography became my primary focus, and I left the Forest Service to pursue it full-time. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to travel throughout the U.S. and the world working with incredible people and brands. Since the beginning I’ve believed that people, places and experiences are the real treasures that this career provides, and I strive to translate that through my images and written work.
